Support Oceans Without Borders
With our fragile oceans under increasing pressure from a range of threats, and the livelihoods of millions at stake, Africa Foundation, in collaboration with andBeyond, has embarked on an initiative to preserve some of Africa’s most important and threatened marine ecosystems. With the recognition that community development and conservation go hand-in-hand, our Oceans Without Borders program works to upskill, uplift and empower local communities. It brings communities together with other key stakeholders including leading scientists, education institutions, governments and other collaborators to positively influence marine conservation and community development over 3,000 kilometers of east African coastline. A major focus of our work is to train and employ local community members as Community & Conservation Marine Rangers who help monitor and research endangered species, mitigate key threats, expand and improve management of marine protected areas, and develop locally relevant marine conservation and awareness campaigns for school children, fishermen and other community members.
